Our friend “Fred” the Egyptian Goose
One day while at our local river park, located along the Great Allegheny Passage Trail, I was photographing some Greylag Geese babies.
Soon I noticed an odd looking bird hanging around with the adult geese. The bird seemed to be helping keep watch over the babies.
We came to find out that this was an Egyptian Goose! This is a very unusual finding for Southwestern Pennsylvania, as his ancestors are from Africa.
We named him (later turned out he was a she) Fred, just because he was different.
We went to the park almost everyday to visit him, and he even would eat bread from our hands!
As I said earlier, we found out Fred was a female. You can tell by her “squawk”. Listen to her in this video!
She was very “prissy” too, and was always bathing!
And in closing, “Fred” is a blessing to us. He proves that being different and unique are okay!
Fred has been featured on iPhotographGod.com twice.
